I have been a very close observer of the rise and rise of Subhash Ghai , from a struggler to a failed actor to a successful writer to a celebrated filmmaker and now as an educationist. But I have never seen him as busy as he is these days , one man wanted in many places because after more than forty years in the industry, he has not  faded out like most of his seniors , his colleagues  and contemporaries and even his   contemporaries today.
In the last one month or so , the showman was the guest of honour at the International Film Festival of India(IFFI) where he took active part in several panel discussions on how to improve the standards of cinema , met several Indian and international filmmakers including the well-known Iranian filmmaker Majid- Majidi whose film “ Beyond The Clouds” was screened at the festival. Ghai exchanged ideas about filmmaking with as many filmmakers to make himself aware of the changes in cinema the world over.

He was the guest of honour at the Dehradun International Festival where his presence and his opinions received a rousing applause. He had left a deep imprint on both the delegates and the film loving people. Only  two days ago, he was again the chief guest at the Kolhapur Film Festival where he paid his tribute to the pioneer filmmaker of Maharashtra, Baburao Painter who had made his first film, “Sairandhri” with Ameena Bai who was known as the First Lady of Indian Cinema. Ghai honoured the well known and multi-award winning director Sumitra Bhave with the Baburao Painter Award for her film “ Samhita” which was made under the banner of Mukta Arts(Ghai’s reputed banner).

In the midst of all his activities , he found time to release my book , “ Life Met Love” together   with other celebrities like Anup Jalota , Dr Irshad Kamil, Sameer Anjaan, Parikshat Sahani. He has also released three of my earlier books.

He was the chief guest at a painting exhibition where he spent time with the future as he described his experience. He was also a part of some other education-related functions including an exhibition of ceramic art at which he presented an award to Ms Hansa Jessani .

He had a special guest in Amitabh Bachchan who presented an award named after him at the Whistling Woods International(WWI) for screenplay writing to a physically disabled student.

And only recently he was the chief guest at the Osho Dham in New Delhi where he spoke about the relevance of Osho’s  teachings and released a book titled “ The Only Life” written by an Osho bhakt , Rashid Raffel .
And his efficient secretary keeps reminding him of his many commitments…..

All this is very fine , Mr. Showman. You are turning into a great educationist which is praiseworthy , but what about Subhash Ghai , The filmmaker who made films like “Hero”, Ram Lakhan”, “Karma” and “ Taal” among others. You cannot stop making films because it is your first love and has been responsible for what and who you are today?
