What is your role in the film?
I play a bumbling full of life over the top Sardar ,small town quirky police officer who gets into, many sticky situations and raises the laughs of those everyone around. He is full of life and lives life king-size with wine wealth and women. He has an equally funny aide called Onida played by funster Varun Sharma. Kriti Sanon plays a crime reporter. It is a kind of a buddy buddy satirical comedy not making fun of others but laughing at ourselves.
How was your tuning with Varun?
It was great. We gelled very well as we both are from Punjab. He is from Jallandhar and I am from Ludhiana.
What made you do this film?
I liked the narration given to me by producer Dinesh Vijan and director Rohit Jugraj who is quite a senior director having given three Punjabi hit films and he is very good at handling comedy and action and that’s why I wanted to do this film and I have not been disappointed as to the final cut of the film.
Are you singing songs in the film?
No. Unfortunately the songs were composed beforehand by Sachin Jigar and there was no need to sing and so I am not singing in the film. But I just did a show in Toronto which was a huge hit.
What kind of business are you expecting for the film?
Unfortunately I don’t understand the business end of the film and even in Punjabi films there is only a market in Punjab and North and now they have a huge market overseas where Punjabi films are doing well.
You are playing a cop in the film. Who is your favorite screen cop and your favorite Hindi stars?
I have grown on a staple diet of Hindi films starting from Rajesh Khanna in our childhood and little older with Amitabh Bachchan and his cop act in ‘Zanjeer’ is my favorite and my all time favorite is Rajendra Kumar. In childhood I used to enjoy action films but then the taste got refined with Hrishida and Basuda films.
Many North Indian stars are now doing Hindi films.
Yes. It has always been the norm. Now my friend Baadshah is also making his screen debut and he came to me for advice but what advice can I offer him?
Are you open to a web series or television?
