“I AM AN ACTOR AS WELL AS A WRITER” “I AM AN ACTOR AS WELL AS A WRITER” -VIJAY MAURYA

How did you get to work on ‘Gully Boy’?
I have known Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti the co-writers of the film and Zoya is of course the director and she assigned me to write the dialogues which was a difficult task since the lingo required ghetto type of dialogues but now my work is being appreciated and I am happy.
You are basically an actor, aren’t you?
Yes. I started with Black Friday where I was noticed for my role of
Dawood Ibrahim and I have also worked in noted films like ‘Paanch’, ‘Satya’, ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’’Striker’, and recently I won acclaim as a writer and actor in the film ‘Tumhari Sulu’. I have also directed a Marathi film ‘Photocopy’ which was appreciated. I have recently got the National award for Best Script for Chillar Party along with Nitesh
Tiwari.
What gives you more satisfaction , writing or acting?
Both are equally creatively satisfying for me and I hope to get more work as a writer after the success of Gully Boy.
How was it like working with Zoya and Reema?
They gave me a completely free hand on my writing and both interacted with me freely. It was an exhilarating experience and I learnt a lot from Gully Boy.
What next?
Very soon I will be announcing a Marathi film as well as a few Hindi film
