What made you accept this film? Isn’t the role a bit bold for a leading lady?
When Vidhu Vinod Chopra and his director sister Shelly Chopra Dhar narrated the script to me I was totally bowled over by this concept of a lesbian who wants to come out of the closet and helped by her family and a friend played by Rajkumar Rao and her father played by Anil Kapoor. The writer Ghazal has etched out the characters superbly.
Was it a bit nervy to act with your father as the reel life father for the first time?
No. Not at all. My father is a complete professional and instantly put me at ease and gave me his inputs while enacting a scene and we vibed very well while shooting the film and the results are there on the screen.
Didn’t you have second thoughts about doing this bold role?
No. Its not a regressive role at all and its all very aesthetically and intellectually done and the credit goes to the director Shelly Chopra Dhar for making a very contemporary film and a family based clean film.
Do you want to push the envelope as for a heroine in Hindi films?
No. I don’t want to change the image of a Hindi film heroine as such but this was one story I had to do as I liked the role very much and I hope my fans like it
